What types of organizations participate in scrip?

Just about any non-profit group including churches, schools, cub scouts and girl scouts, sports and music booster groups, and more.

Why do I have to be a non-profit organization to be a GLSC coordinators?

In order for the scrip concept to work, a participating retailer agrees to give a discount to GLSC. This discount is passed along to the non-profit, and when the certificate is sold by the non-profit for full face value, this discount becomes revenue for the organization. Since the retailer is giving up potential revenue, many of them want to be sure that a non-profit organization is benefiting - not another company. That's why GLSC requires all coordinators to verify their non-profit status.

Where do the scrip certificates come from?

GLSC purchases the certificates directly from the retailers. The certificates we provide to our coordinators are the same gift certificates you would buy if you went to the participating retailer and purchased them yourself

Can I use the scrip certificates anywhere?

Yes, the certificates are accepted at all participating retailer locations.

Does it cost anything to open an account?

No. There is no cost, and no obligation to buy anything. Just complete your enrollment application, and GLSC will open an account for you and mail you a confirmation letter.

How long does it take to get set up as a GLSC coordinators?

You can obtain an enrollment downloading the enrollment forms from this site. Fill out the enrollment form completely, provide all requested information, and mail the form to GLSC. Your enrollment application will be processed within 48 hours of receipt, and GLSC will mail you a confirmation letter indicating your account is open and ready for business! Remember, if you choose ACH payment, you must attach a void or cancelled check from the bank account your organization will be using for scrip purchases.

Is there a minimum amount of certificates that I have to order?

GLSC has no minimum order amount. However, there is a modest shipping charge which applies to each order, so it may be impractical for you to order just one or two certificates.

Do I have to order every week? How often can I order?

There are no requirements for ordering. You can order as frequently or infrequently as you wish. Most GLSC coordinators schedule their scrip orders once a week.

Does GLSC ever run out of certificates? What happens then?

Occasionally, Great Lakes Scrip Center may temporarily run out of a particular certificate. When that happens, we will place the item on backorder and ship it with your next order. If you do not place your next order within 10 business days, GLSC will ship your backorder at that time. Unusually large or urgent backorders may be shipped earlier at our discretion.

Does it cost a family anything to participate? Do they have to sell anything?

There are no membership fees or application fees. Your organization families simply pay your organization face value for the certificates they order. The beauty of the scrip concept lies in the fact that your organization members raise money for your organization by using their existing household shopping budget. Some families may enlist relatives, friends and neighbors to buy scrip. But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to "sell" anything to raise money for their organization.

Can I use scrip to pay department store charge account balances?

A few retailers allow you to pay charge account balances with scrip, but generally speaking, most do not. GLSC coordinators can search our online participating retailers list for specific information on which retailers do and do not accept scrip for charge account balances.

What if I don't want to give GLSC authority to electronically debit my account. Can I pay by check?

Yes, you can pay by check. However, GLSC cannot ship an order until payment is received. GLSC cannot begin processing your order until we receive your check. For fastest turnaround, we recommend electronic debit.

When will I get my order?

Check our Order Turnaround Calculator to plan your order delivery. In addition, delivery time will vary depending on which delivery service level you choose. All FedEx delivery times are calculated from the time your order leaves our offices, not when you submit your order.

Oops! I forgot a to order a few things. Can I add on to my order?

Generally speaking, you can modify your order until we bill you for it or we begin processing the order. Once either of those events occurs, it's very difficult to locate and modify. What's more, taking the order out of the normal processing flow greatly increases the chances for a billing or handling error. In order to process every order as quickly and accurately as possible, we cannot always "add on" to your order. If you need to get additional certificates after you've placed your order, we will be happy to take an additional order which will be processed and billed separately.
